Politics: Tinubu’s speech fails to soothe the #EndBad Governance protesters

On Sunday, August 4, 2024, the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria addressed Nigerians on the issue of the nationwide protest. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu gave a lengthy speech, but his speech failed to hit the nail on the head. It did not give heed to the police brutality against protesters in Borno, Jigawa, Kano, Kaduna, and other states.

Notable Nigerians like Wole Soyinka took to social media to criticize the President’s speech. However, we can all conclude that the President’s speech did not bat an eyelid at #EndBadGovernance protesters as the protest continued the next day.

Business: Tomato price crash due to July-August rain break

In the past few months, the price of pepper was outrageous and people took to other alternatives. The surge in price was due to the abundant rainfall, and as we approach the decline of rainfall, tomatoes thrive well.

Yesterday, news of the price decline eased Nigerians a little bit. A basket of tomatoes sold for N85,000 had dropped to N45,000. Reports say that a basket of tomatoes that costs N120,000 in Mile 12 now costs N50,000.

For the safety of students of Airforce Military School in Jos, Chief of the Air Staff(CAS), Air Marshal Hassan Abubakar approved the conveyance of students back home in a C-130 heavylift aircraft.

This activity commenced on August 3, 2024, transporting students to their homes in Abuja, Enugu, Ilorin, Kaduna,Kano,Markudi, Port Harcourt, Lagos, and Yola. Plans are also in motion to bring these students from their homes back to the Air Force Military School.

Entertainment: Asake’s new album, Lungu Boy, tops the Apple Music Chart

On August 9, 2024, Nigerian singer Asake released his third album, Lungu Boy. The talented singer featured a unique talents like Wizkid, British rappers Central Cee & Stormzy, American Travis Scott and Brazilian singer, Ludmilla. The album is currently on No. 2 Apple Music and tops the Apple Music UK Chart.

Sports: Nigerian cyclist Ese Lovina Ukpeseraye loans a bicycle from a German team to compete in the Olympics

On Thursday, news about a Nigerian cyclist borrowing a bicycle from the German team flooded the internet. The cyclist in quote explained the situation on her X page.

“Due to the short notice of me competing at the Keirin & Sprint, #teamNigeria, I had no bicycle to race on the tracks.”

Ese Ukpeseraye is the first ever Nigerian Olympic cyclist who got a short notice to compete in the cycling game. Nigerians blame the incompetency of the national sports minister. Reports have it that the bicycle in quote couldn’t have been purchased during such a short notice.

However, the Nigerian cyclist lost her competition as she didn’t complete the 154km race.
