The Ondo State Executive Council has approved N3.47 billion as counterpart funds for the Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP).

During a briefing in Akure, the Commissioner for Energy, Mines, and Mineral Resources, Engr. Razaq Obe, and Special Adviser to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa on Information, Olugbenga Omole, made this announcement on Thursday following the State Executive Council meeting.

The RAAMP Project aims to asphalt many feeder roads, connecting rural areas to urban centers, thereby bolstering the state’s economy through agriculture.

“Investing in rural road improvements will facilitate smoother transportation, ensuring fresher produce, reduced transportation costs, and ultimately lower food prices,” Omole added.

Furthermore, to advance Akure’s transformation into a smart city, the state government approved a street lighting system using solar-powered street lights. This initiative aligns with the administration’s commitment to sustainable development, with Akure as the pilot phase.

The “Light Up Akure” project, slated to launch within weeks, will install public illumination solar-powered street lights and traffic lights, with plans for expansion to other areas in the future. Community involvement and asset protection are key aspects of this project, ensuring its success and sustainability.
