Premier League stands firm with Antoine Semenyo in fight against racism

The Premier League has thrown its weight behind Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo after he was subjected to racist abuse.

Following his remarkable brace against Liverpool at Anfield, the Ghanaian striker found himself at the centre of a disturbing incident that has since sparked widespread condemnation.

Although his performance on the opening night of the 2025/26 Premier League season drew applause from fans and neutrals alike, the shadow of discrimination reminded many that football’s fight against racism remains far from over.

Therefore, the league moved swiftly by releasing a strong statement in solidarity with Semenyo and Bournemouth.

League and clubs united against discrimination

In its statement, the Premier League reaffirmed its zero-tolerance stance on racism and discrimination in every form.

According to the league, neither players nor fans should have to endure abuse of any kind, whether online or inside stadiums. For that reason, clubs have also been urged to join forces in creating safer spaces that allow football to remain a game for everyone.

Additionally, supporters were reminded that they hold the power to help stamp out such behavior. By reporting racist or discriminatory incidents immediately, both at grounds and across digital platforms, fans can play an essential role in driving meaningful change.

Hence, the league emphasised that collective responsibility is key in eradicating the poison of hate from football.
