Spotify tests Parental controls for Kids’ accounts

Spotify, the application that offers probably the largest selection of music, has content that could contain materials inappropriate for children. In response, Spotify has partnered with new changes by introducing parental Controls to individuals under the Family Plan. These controls which were first introduced in Denmark, New Zealand, and Sweden enabled parents to block accounts for the listeners below the age of 13.

The pilot program enables the parent to filter songs and restrict some videos and lyrics and even some artists and songs while using the general Spotify application instead of the specific Spotify Kids app.

Other companies like TikTok, Meta and YouTube have also come up with parental controls, due to pressure from the regulatory bodies. Although there are many applications made exclusively for children, several of them continue using the regular applications for a freer interface.

Spotify’s controls are meant to prevent ‘adult content’ from being listened to by minors while at the same time ensuring that each account still has the individuality of its users. These settings can be set up by parents from the Spotify Accounts page of the app.
