Third Mainland Bridge fully reopen

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has announced the full reopening of the Third Mainland Bridge after completing extended repair works to ensure its safety and efficiency for all residents.

In a video shared on his X page (formerly Twitter) on Thursday, Mr Sanwo-Olu emphasised the paramount importance of Lagosians’ patience and resilience during the closure period in maintaining the city’s economic momentum.

He said: “I extend my deepest gratitude to President Bola Tinubu and the Honourable Minister of Works, David Umahi for their expedited focus and attention to detail on the Third Mainland Bridge project. Their commitment has significantly contributed to the timely and quality completion of these necessary improvements.

“My thanks also go to the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation for their effective traffic management throughout this period. Their dedication has minimized disruptions and maintained flow, demonstrating our collective strength and ability to overcome challenges.”

Mr Sanwo-Olu stressed that as Lagosians embrace the smoother journeys provided by the newly renovated bridge, there is also a renewed call for emphasis on road safety.

However, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority has cautioned motorists to adhere to speed limits while traversing the newly repaired extensive section of the Third Mainland Bridge. 

According to a statement released by the agency’s spokesperson, Adebayo Toafiq, on Wednesday, motorists are encouraged to heed all traffic signs and utilize technology-linked traffic equipment.

The state government announced on March 30th the scheduled reopening of the Third Mainland Bridge on Thursday, April 4th.
