Nollywood actor Williams Uchemba has urged the Nigerian government to carry out public executions for convicted kidnappers to address the rising kidnapping cases in the country.
He argued that seeing strict consequences for serious crimes could discourage criminals and reduce abductions.
In a post on his Instagram page, Uchemba expressed frustration with what he sees as a lack of enforcement of existing laws, suggesting that the absence of visible punishment allows kidnappers to act without fear.
He referenced China, where severe penalties, including the death sentence for serious offenses like kidnapping and corruption, have helped maintain low crime levels.

The actor called for stronger measures, even suggesting a dedicated platform to show arrests and executions of kidnappers, saying such steps would send a clear message to potential offenders.
He wrote: “The capital punishment for kidnapping is death, yet when offenders are arrested we hardly hear what happens afterwards. If you ask me, there should even be a dedicated TV channel showing the arrest and public execution of convicted kidnappers. Until real consequences are enforced, nothing will change.”
