Spain’s teenage snsation Lamine Yamal celebrated his 17th birthday by winning the Euro 2024 title and also claiming the Young Player of the Tournament award.
His remarkable achievements were primarily earned while he was still 16, but he capped his contribution to Spain’s success by assisting Nico Williams’ opening goal in their 2-1 victory over England in the final on Sunday.
“This is the best birthday gift I could have asked for. It’s a dream come true,” he said after the match.

Reflecting on the final, Yamal noted, “It got tough when they tied the score. But I don’t know what this team is made of because we always fight back.”
England substitute Cole Palmer had equalised for England, but Mikel Oyarzabal clinched Spain’s win in the 86th minute.
Yamal’s pivotal moment in the final came in the 47th minute when he set up Williams’ goal. He cut inside Luke Shaw and delivered a precise pass to the left, which Williams struck into the far post. The Barcelona winger also forced England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford into making two good saves.

The Euro 2024 Young Player of the Tournament has already set numerous records. He became the youngest player to appear at the European Championship, the youngest to score in the tournament, and the youngest to play in a final.
His contributions throughout the tournament were significant. He finished the Euro 2024 tournament with four assists and one goal.
