Former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, has officially signalled his intention to run for governor of Bauchi State in the 2027 elections.
Tuggar, who stepped down from his ministerial role in March 2026, explained that his resignation followed a directive by President Bola Tinubu requiring political appointees seeking elective positions to vacate their offices.
During a visit to the All Progressives Congress (APC) secretariat in Bauchi on Saturday, ahead of his formal declaration, he emphasised the importance of party structure and loyalty.
“I approached the party office before moving to the declaration ground because the party is the first point of call. As directed by the President, I resigned my position on March 31.”
He urged members of the party to close ranks and work together to regain control of the state, stressing that he would remain committed to the party regardless of the outcome of the primaries.
“My political philosophy is that whoever emerges as the party’s flag bearer, I will not take my fellow party member to court. I will support and wish the person well,” he said.

At the official declaration venue, Tuggar framed his ambition as a response to pressing socio-economic issues in Bauchi, including poverty, joblessness, insecurity, and gaps in education and healthcare delivery.
He promised continuity where necessary, while also addressing existing shortcomings in governance.
Highlighting his policy direction, the former minister said his administration would focus on boosting the economy through agriculture, strengthening small and medium-sized enterprises, and tapping into the state’s solid mineral resources.
He also pledged timely salary payments, better market facilities, and stronger rural development initiatives.
On security, Tuggar outlined plans to deepen cooperation between local communities and security agencies, improve intelligence systems, and tackle underlying issues such as youth unemployment and drug abuse.

“We will ensure that no farmer fears going to the farm, no trader fears the road, and no child fears going to school,” he said.
He further committed to reducing the number of out-of-school children, investing in teachers, expanding vocational education, and promoting digital skills among young people.
In the health sector, he promised more accessible and affordable primary healthcare, alongside social protection programmes for vulnerable populations.
Tuggar added that his administration would prioritise transparency, reform the civil service, expand infrastructure, and ensure inclusive governance that reflects the interests of women and minority groups.
“This is not just my ambition; it is a collective mission to move Bauchi State forward,” Tuggar said.
