Politics: 2027: Sanwo-Olu congratulates Hamzat on emergence as Lagos APC governorship candidate
NRTC WEEKLY gathered that Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has congratulated his deputy, Obafemi Hamzat, following his emergence as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress ahead of the 2027 elections.
In a statement issued on his X page on Friday, Sanwo-Olu expressed confidence in Hamzat’s leadership capacity.
He described him as a committed public servant with a clear vision for the continued growth and development of the state.
Reflecting on their years of working together, the governor said their government partnership had allowed him to witness Hamzat’s dedication, intellect and passion for improving the lives of Lagosians.
Business/Economy:CBN offers N650bn Treasury Bills auction for May 20
NRTC WEEKLY learnt that the Central Bank of Nigeria is offering N650 billion in a Treasury Bills auction scheduled for Wednesday, May 20, 2026, as part of the Federal Government’s second-quarter borrowing calendar.
The apex bank will offer N100 billion in 91-day bills, N50 billion in 182-day bills, and N500 billion in 364-day bills through the Dutch auction system.
Bids must be submitted electronically between 8:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. on May 20, with a minimum subscription of N50.001 million in multiples of N1,000 thereafter.

The auction result is expected on May 20, while settlement and allotment letters will be issued on May 21.
The CBN reserves the right to vary the amount on offer depending on prevailing market conditions at the time of the auction.
Leading Stories: No plan to rename Nigeria or scrap Sharia law – Presidency
NRTC WEEKLY reported that the Presidency has rejected a viral online report alleging that President Bola Tinubu plans to push constitutional amendments to rename Nigeria the “United States of Nigeria” and abolish Sharia law in the northern region.
In a statement issued yesterday, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, described the claims as completely false and urged the public to disregard them.

Onanuga said the report, which cited unnamed sources, formed part of a wider attempt to mislead the public and destabilise the country ahead of the next election cycle.
He said the publication was deliberately crafted to inflame political tensions and trigger public disaffection.

Entertainment: Singer Niniola loses husband
NRTC WEEKLY gathered that Nigerian afro-house singer Niniola Apata has announced the death of her husband, Michael Ndika.
She announced his death through some emotional posts shared on her Instagram story early Wednesday.
In her messages, she wrote, “God took him,” followed by another post that said, “My husband died.”
She also added more detail about their long relationship, writing, “God took him. 13 years. 13 f***ing years.”
