Fubara denied entry to Rivers Assembly quarters amid budget presentation standoff

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, was prevented from accessing the Rivers State House of Assembly quarters on Wednesday, where lawmakers currently hold their plenary sessions.

News Round The Clock gathered that the governor arrived at the Assembly quarters on Wednesday morning to present the state’s 2025 budget but was met with a locked gate, barring his entry.

Fubara had previously assured that he would implement the Supreme Court judgment, which includes the formal presentation of the 2024 budget. The budget was initially presented in December 2023 to a four-member faction of the Assembly.

Last week, the Assembly issued a 48-hour ultimatum, demanding that the governor present the 2025 budget. However, Fubara responded that he was awaiting the Certified True Copy (CTC) of the court ruling before proceeding.

On Sunday, the Secretary to the State Government, Tammy Danagogo, sent a letter to Speaker Martins Amaewhule on behalf of the governor, inviting lawmakers for discussions on the Supreme Court ruling.

The meeting was expected to address the budget presentation, the payment of outstanding salaries to legislators, and other matters critical to moving the state forward.
