Spotify adds direct messaging to its app

Spotify has launched Messages, a new in-app direct messaging feature that lets users share songs, podcasts, and audiobooks with each other.

The rollout applies to free and Premium users aged 16 and older in select regions.

The tool appears in the Now Playing screen and creates a dedicated inbox for shared content. Spotify said the feature builds on collaborations like Jams, Blends, and family playlists.

Users can send text, emojis, and audio links, with options to block, report, or opt out. The company confirmed that messages are end-to-end encrypted.

According to Spotify, the goal is to simplify music sharing and discovery inside the app. However, many users online have criticized the update, arguing that the company should prioritize long-awaited features such as lossless HiFi audio.
