American rapper Darryl Dwayne Granberry Jr., known professionally as DDG, has criticised what he described as misleading Western portrayals of Nigeria, calling them “fake.
The rapper, who is currently spending time in Lagos, said the country is far less dangerous than it is often portrayed abroad, arguing that the United States poses greater security risks.
In a video shared online, DDG encouraged foreigners to visit Nigeria and judge the country based on personal experience rather than media narratives.
Speaking in the video, he said, “I honestly think America is the most dangerous country. I don’t think Nigeria is as dangerous as America – nowhere near.

“No doubt, there is insecurity in Nigeria. But gun violence and gangsterism is not common in Nigeria as in America. So, if anybody is thinking about coming to Nigeria, pull up.”
The hip-hop star also disclosed that before his visit, he had been warned against Nigerian food and advised to boil water before drinking.
However, DDG said his experience contradicted those claims, noting that he found Nigerian meals to be healthy, with a special mention of jollof rice.
