Actor Roy De Nani opens up on painful experiences, personal losses in Nollywood

Veteran Nollywood actor Roy De Nani has opened up about the deep challenges he has faced in the movie industry and the painful personal losses that have shaped his life.

In an interview on the ‘Where is the lie’ podcast, the actor claimed that he was at one point sidelined in the industry, alleging that an order was issued to prevent him from being cast in films.

According to him, “A man gave an order that nobody should give Roy De Nani a job again. For years, even when I was already recording, a producer would come in and say, ‘No, cancel it. Stop.’”

He also recounted the emotional pain he experienced following the death of his brother, noting that none of his colleagues in Nollywood showed up to support him.

“I have a brother from the same father. When he died, not a single actor or actress showed up,” he said.

Roy De Nani further revealed that he later endured an even more heartbreaking tragedy when he lost both his son and daughter due to his inability to afford life-saving blood transfusions.

He explained that the children were battling sickle cell disorder and depended on regular transfusions to survive.

“I lost my son, I lost my daughter because they needed blood transfusion so they could continue living, but there was no money to buy the blood, and they died,” he said.

Reflecting on the lack of support he received, the actor expressed disappointment, though he offered a measured perspective.

“Nollywood never came to assist me. Not that they don’t care, but they have not been touched. Let it be said that way,” he added.
