APC’s FCT sweep reflected public trust in Tinubu’s leadership — AbdulRazaq

The Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) and Governor of Kwara State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has lauded President Bola Tinubu for providing the “leadership and direction” that propelled the All Progressives Congress (APC) to sweeping victories in the recent Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council elections.

Speaking on the party’s performance, the governor said the APC secured five of the six area councils in Abuja, a feat he attributed to public endorsement of the President’s transformation agenda.

AbdulRazaq stressed that the results in the FCT, alongside recent APC victories in by-elections in Rivers and Kano states, demonstrated the party’s “strong and effective organisational structure.”

He added that infrastructure and social development projects under the current administration had won over even non-partisan residents.

“I spoke to a non-APC member yesterday, and he said, ‘While I am not a member of the APC, I cannot vote against the APC because of the transformation of Abuja that we can see,’” the governor said.

He congratulated the newly elected chairmen, including Christopher Maikalangu of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), and urged them to hit the ground running.

He noted that with a policy framework already established by the Federal Government, the new leadership must prioritise responsiveness to the needs of the people.

He identified key focus areas for the chairmen as sustaining rapid development across the FCT, improving healthcare and education delivery, and aligning council-level governance with the national APC framework.

While celebrating the five-council victory, AbdulRazaq said the party was reviewing electoral documents relating to Gwagwalada, where the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was declared the winner.

He stated that the APC would assess the situation and determine whether legal or administrative options were available.

The governor thanked residents of Abuja for their trust and pledged that the party would continue to demonstrate “great responsibility” in managing the affairs of the capital.
