Vice President Kashim Shettima has praised the collaborative efforts of the Kukah Centre and the ProFuturo Foundation in advancing digital literacy.

He revealed that their training of 1,150 teachers and 72,000 students directly mirrors the human capital goals of the President Bola Tinubu administration.

Shettima made the remarks on Wednesday while receiving a high-level delegation from both organisations, led by the Founder of the Kukah Centre, Bishop Matthew Kukah, at the Presidential Villa.

Shettima expressed deep satisfaction with the measurable milestones achieved by the digital education initiative since its launch in Nigeria in 2017.

He noted that the project’s emphasis on equipping vulnerable communities with modern skills aligns with the objectives of the National Council on Skills and Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope” development framework.

Despite the recorded progress in boosting primary school enrollment, he cautioned that Nigeria’s rapidly expanding population requires even greater expansion, especially as the government navigates competing demands for scarce public resources.

To scale the intervention, Shettima proposed an immediate strategic meeting between the project’s implementing partners and key federal educational bodies.

The collaborative session will include: the Federal Ministry of Education, the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), the Industrial Training Fund (ITF) and the National Board for Technical Education (NABTE).

Furthermore, he pledged to introduce the ProFuturo digital template to the National Economic Council (NEC) to help state governments systematically digitise their respective State Universal Basic Education Boards (SUBEBs).

Earlier in the meeting, Bishop Matthew Kukah explained that the delegation’s visit was intended to show solid support for the federal government’s educational initiatives.

He commended Shettima’s personal commitment to technological advancement, describing it as the kind of leadership required to position Nigeria for a global economy anchored on digital skills.

Providing a detailed overview of the project’s performance, the Programme Coordinator, Emmanuel Nkanta, disclosed that the intervention has already impacted 123 schools across 13 states.

While celebrating the training of over 70,000 pupils and more than a thousand instructors, Nkanta emphasised that securing additional funding and institutional partners remains vital to extending the programme nationwide.

Corroborating this overview, the Deputy Director to the President of the ProFuturo Foundation, Albert Martinez, credited the project’s local success to a strong combination of indigenous technical capability, community commitment, and receptive political leadership.
