1999, the United Nations (UN) declared August 12 as International Youth Day. On December 17, 1999, in Lisbon, the World Conference of Ministers Responsible for Youth made a recommendation to the United Nations General Assembly. Since its inception on August 12, 2000, the day has raised public awareness across all demographics.
This celebration commemorates the impact of youth on the world’s progress. The UN Secretary-General once mentioned the importance of youth to advancing humanity.
