JAMB approves ‘The Lekki Headmaster’ as 2025 UTME English text

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced that “The Lekki Headmaster” by Kabir Alabi Garba will be the prescribed reading text for the Use of English paper in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

This update was shared via JAMB’s official X account, advising prospective candidates to prepare accordingly.

In previous years, JAMB has selected texts to assess candidates’ comprehension and critical thinking skills. For instance, “Sweet Sixteen” by Bolaji Abdullahi was the chosen novel for the Use of English exam in prior UTME sessions. “Sweet Sixteen” focuses on Aliya, a young woman who must remind her father that she is no longer a child but a young adult.

“The Lekki Headmaster” is expected to offer fresh perspectives and challenges for candidates, aligning with JAMB’s commitment to enhancing educational standards.
