The government department responsible for immigration in the UK has made a U-turn on plans to increase the minimum salary requirement for residents bringing family members to the United Kingdom.
The Home Office surprisingly reduced the amount temporarily to Ā£29,000, with no timeline given for planned full rise to the new rate of Ā£38,700, which was announced recently.
This will bring succour to thousands of Nigerian students and workers who recently Japa’d to the United Kingdom.
For a few years now, the UK has been a hot destination for foreign families willing to relocate to seek for work and study due to its open door policy which has led to spikes in legal migration.
The government had been under pressure from parts of the Conservative party and the public to cut arrival numbers after net migration soared to a record 745,000 in 2022.

The policy triggered a backlash from campaigners and migration experts, who said it would make Britainās salary requirements for spousal visas among the harshest in the world and risked separating lower-paid British nationals from their families.
Shadow home secretary, Yvette Cooper also claimed that the Tory government had failed to consult properly on the new threshold, adding: “it’s no surprise they are now rowing back in a rush”.
There has been a lot of pressure over the policy in recent weeks, amid warnings that the new visa policy would keep families apart.
