Lagbaja: Tinubu orders half-staff flags as NGF mourns Army Chief

In mourning the late Chief of Army Staff, General Taoreed Lagbaja, President Bola Tinubu has ordered flags to be flown at half-staff nationwide for seven days.

Tinubu further ordered rescheduling the Federal Executive Council (NEC) meeting scheduled to be held Tuesday till further notice.

NRTC gathered that President Tinubu announced the death of Lagbaja on Wednesday. He died at 56-years-old after a brief illness on Tuesday night.

Tinubu disclosed this in a statement by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga on Wednesday.

General Lagbaja served as the Chief of Army Staff from June 19, 2023, till his death on November 5, 2024.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Governorsā€™ Forum (NGF) joined President Tinubu and the rest of the country to mourn the death of Lagbaja.

NGF in a statement by its Chairman and Governor of Kwara State Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq send condolences to the President, the Nigerian military establishment, and the family of Lagbaja.

ā€œOur hearts are especially with the family and the Nigerian Army at this difficult moment. We are comforted by the unforgettable memories of his unblemished services to our country. Even in death, Lt. Gen. Lagbaja stands honoured for his bravery and dedication to a greater, united Nigeria.

ā€œWe ask Almighty God to forgive his shortcomings, admit him to al-Jannah Firdaus, and give his family the strength to get through this tough phase of life.ā€
