Lawmaker flags discrepancies in gazetted tax reform laws

Hon. Abdulsammad Dasuki, a member of Nigeria’s House of Representatives, has raised concerns over discrepancies between gazetted tax reform laws and versions passed by the National Assembly.

Dasuki highlighted the issue as a matter of privilege on the House floor on December 17, 2025.

He stated that gazetted copies differ materially from the harmonised bills debated and approved by both the House and Senate.

The lawmaker compared House vote proceedings, Senate records, and harmonised versions with the published gazetted texts.

Dasuki emphasised that the gazetted laws do not match what legislators passed during sessions.

He urged Speaker Tajudeen Abbas to lay all relevant documents before the Committee of the Whole for scrutiny.

The Speaker acknowledged the concern and promised to address the matter promptly.

These tax reform laws, signed recently, aim to overhaul Nigeria’s fiscal framework and streamline administration across government levels.

The raised discrepancies introduce uncertainty ahead of the laws’ scheduled implementation in January 2026, potentially affecting national tax policy integrity and legislative process.
