Miyetti Allah urges President Tinubu to retain nomadic education

Baba Ngelzarma, the National President of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, has urged President Bola Tinubu to maintain the National Commission for Nomadic Education as an agency under the Ministry of Education.

Emphasizing the commission’s vital role in providing basic education to nomadic communities, Ngelzarma expressed concern over potential risks to the country if the commission is not retained with sufficient funding.

This call comes amidst the Federal Government’s announcement on February 28, 2024, regarding implementing recommendations from the 12-year-old Oronsaye report.

The report proposed a reduction in statutory agencies from 263 to 161, scrapping 38 agencies, merging 52, and reverting 14 to departments within ministries.

Addressing the outcomes of a security summit, Ngelzarma stressed the need for a non-kinetic approach to tackle challenges such as banditry, kidnapping, and cattle rustling.

He highlighted that past kinetic strategies have yielded limited results and called for a revision in the government’s approach to address the root causes of conflicts, particularly concerning the Fulbe community.

“That the Government has not made much inroads towards addressing the genesis of the current conflict, challenges of the Fulbe.

“The FG should revise and adopt a non-kinetic approach to ending banditry, kidnapping, and cattle rustling, as the kinetic ways used over the years have only achieved very little result”, the communique stated.
