Ikorodu City FC suffered a 1-0 loss to Plateau United on matchday five of the 2024/2025 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season after a second half strike by Vincent Temitope.
The match began at a slow tempo, with only a few opportunities arising. Rivio Ayemwenre tested Plateau United’s goalkeeper, Emeka Nwabula, who made a solid save, while Muhammad Umar squandered a free header by sending it wide.
As the first half progressed, Plateau United had the final say. Victor Dawa launched a long-range effort that required Faith James’s strong hands to keep the score level at halftime.

After the break, Ikorodu City aimed to seize momentum with an early goal. Unfortunately, just ten minutes in, goalkeeper James suffered a knee injury while contesting for the ball, forcing him to be replaced by Chinemerem Olughu. Simultaneously, Alade Solomon stepped in for Chilaka Thankgod.
Plateau United break the deadlock
The tide turned shortly after these substitutions when Vincent Temitope scored, giving Plateau United the lead. Consequently, the game became increasingly one-sided as ‘Oga Boys’ team scrambled for an equaliser.
Substitute Alade Solomon quickly tried to respond, firing a shot just over the bar. With ten minutes remaining, Gidado Toyeeb replaced Emmanuel Solomon and nearly made an impact, seeing his long-range effort cleared off the line.
In the closing minutes, the visitors finally found the back of the net. Gidado’s free kick was mishandled by the goalkeeper. However, Chineme’s follow-up was ruled offside, denying the away side a crucial equaliser.
Almost immediately, Chineme Chinonso unleashed a powerful volley that forced another fantastic save from Emeka. Afoke Malik came on during the two minutes of added time, but that was not enough to see Ikorodu City FC avoid defeat against the Jos-based outfit.
Now, the team turns its focus to the upcoming match against Bendel Insurance in Matchday 6 of the NPFL25, scheduled for Saturday, 12th October 2024.
