“Peter Obi cannot be President of Nigeria now” – Yul Edochie

Nollywood actor and politician Yul Edochie has stated that former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi cannot become Nigeria’s president at this time.

Edochie made this known on Tuesday via his official X account, where he downplayed Obi’s political relevance and criticised his involvement in emerging opposition coalition talks ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to him, Obi’s reported alignment with the African Democratic Congress is already “dead on arrival” and a “total waste of time.”

He wrote, “Any political party Peter Obi joins will scatter. Whatever he’s doing with ADC is dead on arrival. A total waste of time. It’s not a physical problem. It’s deeper than that.

” I’m surprised he doesn’t know this already. Or maybe he knows but chooses to ignore it. But the truth remains the truth. Peter Obi cannot be President of Nigeria now.”

Edochie, a known supporter of President Bola Tinubu, also argued that Obi’s influence is often overstated, adding that his presence weakens rather than strengthens coalition efforts.

The actor, who previously contested the 2017 Anambra governorship election under the Democratic Peoples Congress, has increasingly taken strong positions on national political issues in recent years.

Obi, a former governor of Anambra State and Labour Party candidate in the 2023 presidential election, gained widespread support, particularly among young and urban voters, where he emerged as a strong third-force contender.

As preparations for the 2027 elections begin, Obi has been linked to ongoing consultations among opposition figures, including discussions around the African Democratic Congress as a possible coalition platform to challenge the current administration.

At a recent public event in Enugu, Obi reportedly described the coalition push as a mission to “rescue Nigeria from poverty, disunity and democratic decline.”

He has also dismissed concerns about possible internal rivalry, especially involving former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, whom he described during a visit to LEA Primary School in Abuja as a “dear elder brother and respected leader.”
