Premier League: Arsenal suffer huge loss as Manchester City win big to move closer to title

Arsenal’s gradual slip away from the Premier League title continued on Sunday with a horrendous 3-0 home loss.

Meanwhile, reigning champions Manchester City put themselves in a solid position to claim the title this season with a commanding 3-0 victory against Everton at the Goodison Park.

City are now just one win away from their fifth English Premier League title in six years, further cementing Pep Guardiola’s dominance since arriving England.

The Cityzens played earlier in the day and Arsenal needed a positive response but with their loss at the Emirates, City now have a four-point lead over their closest rivals this season.

It was indeed a frustrating day for the Gunners. Belgian player Leandro Trossard hit the bar while Bukayo Saka and Martin Ødegaard both went close.

19-year-old Paraguayan Julio Enciso’s close-range header broke the deadlock six minutes into the second half.

Brighton were not done even though Arsenal tried everything they could to get back into the match. Deniz Undav extended the visitors’ lead when he lobbed the ball over Aaron Ramsdale in the 86th minute.

The massacre was completed by Pervis Estupinan who scored Brighton’s third in the sixth minute of injury time.

Everything that happened at the Emirates on Sunday was so sad to see for the Arsenal faithfuls.

City march confidently towards league title

Earlier, Ilkay Gundogan’s brace and an Erling Haaland strike sealed a deserved 3-0 win for Manchester City against Everton.

Pep Guardiola’s side will win the Premier League title next Sunday if they beat Chelsea at the Etihad. Even if Arsenal defeat Nottingham Forest at the City Ground a day prior, it wouldn’t change anything if City win.

However, City will be automatically confirmed winners of the league without playing on Saturday if Arsenal lose at Forest.

The Seagulls’ victory today lifts them above both Aston Villa and Tottenham into sixth on 58 points.
