‎Prosperity Cup Final closes in Yenagoa as Diri awards ₦30m‎‎

Governor Douye Diri presided over the grand finale of Season 8 of the Bayelsa Governor’s Football Tournament, tagged the Prosperity Cup, at the Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenagoa on Friday, May 7.  ‎‎

The competition, widely regarded as Nigeria’s biggest community football tournament, features men’s and women’s finals, record prize money, and a landmark partnership with the FC Barcelona‑affiliated Bayelsa Starlets Academy. ‎‎

In a statement signed by the Tournament Director, Mr. Ebi Avi, the organisers confirmed that the men’s final pitches Okoroma United of Nembe LGA against Akinima/Biogbo of Ogboloma at 3:00 p.m., while defending champions Afini Ladies of Amarata face Active Ladies of Agudama in the women’s final at 1:00 p.m. 

‎‎Avi disclosed that the finale will also witness the historic signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the organisers and the Bayelsa Starlets Academy, affiliated with FC Barcelona, describing it as a breakthrough for grassroots football development in the state.

According to the statement, winners of this year’s category will receive ₦30 million, runners‑up ₦10 million, third‑placed MLDM FC ₦5 million, and fourth‑placed Krosaders ₦2 million. ‎‎

In the women’s category, champions will earn ₦10 million, second place ₦5 million, third ₦2 million, and fourth ₦1 million, alongside other consolation prizes.  ‎‎

The statement further noted that Governor Diri was the Chief Host, with Deputy Governor Akpe as Guest of Honour and Commissioner Igali as Host.‎‎Other dignitaries included Dr. Emefienim, former NFF President Pinnick, NNL Chairman Aluo, NDDC MD Ogbuku, NIS Director Shaibu, and Sports Commission DG Olopade.  ‎‎

Avi added that fans will enjoy side attractions such as a raffle draw, free branded jerseys for the first 50 spectators, and free health checks for the first 200 fans courtesy of the Bayelsa Health Insurance Scheme (BHIS).  ‎‎

The grand finale, marked by record prizes, international partnerships, and the presence of top football administrators, is cementing the Prosperity Cup’s reputation as a cornerstone of grassroots sports development in Bayelsa and Nigeria at large.  ‎
