Owen Oseni has received his first invitation to the Nigeria Super Eagles squad for the Unity Cup in London. The 23‑year‑old Plymouth Argyle striker has registered 10 goals and five assists this season.
Who is Owen Oseni?
Oseni was born in Ireland and qualifies for three nations. He holds Nigerian citizenship through his father, while his mother is Ivorian. However, he has chosen to represent Nigeria.
He has never been capped at any level for any country. This call‑up is his first senior international recognition.
A journey through lower leagues
Oseni started with Villa FC and Waterford in Ireland. He joined Derby County’s academy in 2023. Loan spells at Nuneaton Borough and Rushall Olympic gave him senior football. A breakout followed at Gateshead in the 2024/25 season, where he scored 13 league goals in 24 National League games.

A short move to St Mirren in the Scottish Premiership did not produce goals. He made 11 substitute appearances without scoring. Plymouth signed him in June 2025.
What Plymouth says
Head coach Tom Cleverley has praised Oseni’s goal‑scoring instinct. Head of football operations David Fox called him strong, quick and powerful with exceptional physical output.
Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle admires Oseni’s work rate, pressing, movement and aggression, as well as his goal return.
What the Unity Cup means for him
The Unity Cup is not a FIFA‑sanctioned tournament. Oseni will not become cap‑tied to Nigeria by playing. He could still represent Ireland or Ivory Coast in the future. However, he has expressed a strong desire to commit to the Super Eagles.
Celtic, Racing Genk and several Championship clubs are monitoring the striker ahead of the summer transfer window.
Oseni will compete in attack alongside Terem Moffi and Rafiu Durosinmi. After a determined climb through the divisions, he now stands on the brink of his international debut.
