Vitinha has been named the GFFN Ligue 1 Player of the Season for 2025/2026.
The Portuguese midfielder anchored a Paris Saint-Germain side that swept aside all domestic opposition. His tenacious approach, his ease in gliding between opposition lines, and his passing range remained central to Luis Enrique’s system all season.
Vitinha registered one goal and seven assists in 28 Ligue 1 appearances. His average FotMob rating of 7.6 placed him among the division’s elite. But raw scoring numbers never told his story. The 26-year-old completed 2,547 successful passes at an accuracy of 93.8 per cent. He created 34 chances, made 135 recoveries, and won 61 duels.
Beyond the statistics, Vitinha was an iron man. He played 82 per cent of PSG’s total minutes across all competitions. Only a heel injury in April stopped his run, causing him to miss three games. No other PSG outfield player logged more time on the pitch.

A record that rewrites history
Vitinha’s influence burned brightest in Europe. He broke the Champions League record for most successful passes in a single season. His tally of 1,448 accurate passes surpassed the 1,299 mark set by Barcelona legend Xavi Hernandez in 2012/13.
The record arrived just one season after Vitinha had already climbed to second on the all-time list with 1,294 passes. Now he stands alone at the summit. He achieved the feat while playing every minute of PSG’s Champions League campaign. He also recorded six of his seven goals for the season on the European stage, including a memorable hat-trick against Tottenham in November.

The heir to the armband
Vitinha has emerged as a quiet leader within PSG’s dressing room. He assumed the role of vice-captain over the summer and often wore the armband in the absence of Marquinhos. When the Brazilian defender departs, the armband will almost certainly pass to the Portuguese midfielder.
His evolution from a doubtful signing to an indispensable figure has been striking. Following a podium finish in last year’s Ballon d’Or rankings, Vitinha has continued to serve as the anchor of an all-conquering PSG midfield. His relentless work rate, positional intelligence and composure under pressure have made him the first name on Luis Enrique’s teamsheet.
