WhatsApp has rolled out fresh features to combat scams and has recently banned over 6.8 million accounts for violation of policies.
The messaging app now allows users to flag suspicious messages and report suspected phishing content directly within chat threads.
According to WhatsApp, enhanced artificial intelligence systems now detect suspicious behavior patterns and block scam messages before delivery.
This upgrade is paired with increased account bans, with more than 6.8 million violations flagged and enforced globally.
WhatsApp said automated systems now track spam volume, suspicious links, and impersonation attempts more effectively in real time.
“Security is central to our mission, and these measures demonstrate our commitment to protecting users worldwide,” the company stated in its official blog.

In addition to account bans, WhatsApp has expanded its user warnings for suspicious activity—displaying safety prompts before messages with risky links are opened.
Also included is improved verification for unknown senders; messages from untrusted numbers now trigger alerts to help users avoid fake profiles.
Furthermore, WhatsApp reinforced its community standards and updated internal thresholds to reduce false positives and collateral bans.
The app’s new reporting tools allow users to forward suspect messages to WhatsApp support teams more easily for swift review.
By combining user reporting with advanced AI filters, WhatsApp says scam detection accuracy has already improved significantly since implementation.
The updated tools are available to all users on the latest Android and iOS versions of WhatsApp and are being rolled out gradually.
