Seun Kuti speaks on billion-dollar wealth

Nigerian singer Seun Kuti has stirred reactions online after speaking about how difficult it is for people to truly understand the value of one billion dollars.

Speaking during the Afropolitan interview, the Afrobeat musician said many people mention billions casually without fully understanding how massive such an amount really is.

โ€œYou cannot finish one billion dollars,โ€ Seun Kuti said.

According to him, the human brain naturally struggles to process extremely large numbers because people are more familiar with smaller figures in daily life.

โ€œBiologically speaking, the human brain did not evolve to understand such huge numbers,โ€ he said.

To explain his point, Seun Kuti used an example involving time. He said one million seconds is equal to about 11 days, while one billion seconds stretches to around 37 years.

โ€œSo thereโ€™s a very popular experiment to help people understand how big a billion is. One million seconds is 11 days. One billion seconds is 37 years,โ€ he said.

The singer said this comparison helps people see why billion-dollar figures should not be treated casually. He added that many discussions around wealth and public funds happen without people fully understanding the scale of the money involved.

Seun Kuti also used luxury spending examples to explain how enormous one billion dollars is. According to him, even after buying several expensive private jets, a person would still have a large amount of money left.

โ€œYou have a billion dollars. Private jets are 30 million. You buy four private jets and you still have hundreds of millions left,โ€ he said.

He also mentioned luxury items such as gold chains, Rolls-Royce cars and Ferraris, insisting that the amount would still remain massive despite extravagant spending.
