Oseloka Obi, the son of Nigerian politician Peter Obi, has addressed the buzz surrounding viral photos showing him alongside British-Nigerian gay rights advocate Kent Okwesa.
The pictures, captured at a restaurant, show the two seated closely, which quickly stirred reactions and online chatter.
Reacting to the controversy, Oseloka explained that his work in theatre and filmmaking naturally involves engaging with people from all walks of life, including those with different identities and orientations.
He dismissed the circulating narratives, saying they were attempts to misrepresent him and his father.

“Individuals opposed to my father seize ordinary photos of me and repackage them with false stories,” he said, adding that such acts reveal more about the intentions of those spreading them than about him or Peter Obi.
He further pointed out that Nigeria is grappling with bigger problems that deserve more attention, citing insecurity, economic hardship, poor infrastructure, and failing healthcare systems as examples.
In his words, “More importantly, Nigeria has far greater issues than idle speculation about what Peter Obi’s son is doing. Our nation still struggles with insecurity, a weakened economy, crumbling infrastructure, failing healthcare, and politicians who steal from the people they swore to serve. And yet, for some, the priority is to spread gossip about who Peter Obi’s son appears with in a photo.”
This is not the first time Oseloka has been in the spotlight for his associations. Earlier in January 2024, his appearance on the cover of UK Gay Times also attracted widespread discussion online.
