Becoming a father made me more responsible – Zlatan reflects on fatherhood and finances

Nigerian rapper Zlatan Ibile has reflected on how becoming a father at the age of 25 transformed his outlook on life, admitting that the experience came with both emotional and financial challenges.

The Zanku hitmaker shared his experience during a recent episode of the Is This A Safe Space? podcast, where he spoke about how welcoming his son five years ago forced him to re-evaluate his lifestyle and priorities.

“The birth of my son changed me. It made me realise that life was getting more serious. I wasn’t prepared. I started paying house rent in London at 25. I was scared I might not be able to keep up with the bills because some people were saying I might not be relevant in the music industry for more than three years,” he said.

Zlatan noted that fatherhood pushed him to become more financially disciplined and cautious with his spending.

“I became more serious with managing my finances. Limited spending and started saving for diapers,” he recalled.

He also admitted that having a child made him reflect on and regret some of his past actions, adding that the experience helped him drop certain habits and focus more on personal growth.

The rapper, who has been vocal about his journey in the music industry, said fatherhood has given him a renewed sense of purpose and responsibility both as a man and as an artist.
