The Lagos State Government has dismissed circulating claims that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu was asked to resign, describing the reports as entirely false and misleading.
In a statement released, the governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, rejected a publication by Sahara Reporters which alleged that the governor was “ordered to step down on health grounds”.
He said the report was a fabrication with no basis in fact.
Akosile maintained that Sanwo-Olu remained in good health and fully engaged in the business of governance.
Akosile said the rumour followed a familiar pattern of misinformation designed to create unnecessary public anxiety.
“The report is false in its entirety,” he said.

Clarification
Clarifying the governor’s recent schedule, Akosile disclosed that Sanwo-Olu had earlier met with his deputy, Obafemi Hamzat, in what he described as a routine and cordial engagement.
According to him, the meeting provided an opportunity for Hamzat to inform the governor of his ambition for the governorship.

Akosile stressed that the discussion was professional and should not be misinterpreted as a sign of internal crisis or a transition plan.

He urged residents to disregard the rumours and remain cautious of unverified information, particularly on social media.
While noting that it would ordinarily ignore such claims, Akosile said Sanwo-Olu’s administration chose to respond to prevent confusion and reassure Lagosians that governance in the state remained stable and uninterrupted.
