Politics: 2026: Fayose backs Oyebanji reelection bid

NRTC WEEKLY gathered that former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose has threw his full support behind the re-election bid of incumbent Governor Biodun Oyebanji, urging him to disregard critics and social media attacks.

Fayose delivered his message in Igbara Odo Ekiti while commissioning the 14-kilometer Igbara Odo-Ikogosi road, a project marking the third anniversary of Oyebanji’s administration.

The former governor branded Oyebanji’s detractors on social media as “blackmailers and players of morbid politics,” advising the governor to stay focused on governance.

NRTC WEEKLY reported that food and beverage imports into Nigeria surged by 45 percent to ₦677.3 billion in the first half of 2025.

Data from the National Bureau of Statistics showed that household consumption imports rose sharply. Meanwhile, locally produced Nigerian food options continued to struggle amid insecurity, poor infrastructure, and inconsistent government policy.

The Chairman of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s Agricultural Group, Tunde Banjoko, said Nigerians had lost trust in the quality of local food products.

Leading Stories: Trump threatens swift US military action against Nigeria over alleged Christian killings

NRTC WEEKLY gathered that the U.S. President Donald Trump warned that the United States may take immediate military action against Nigeria if the country fails to stop the reported killing of Christians.

Trump, in a post shared on Truth Social on Saturday, said he had instructed the Defense Department to prepare for a possible “fast” operation in the West African nation.

He also announced an immediate halt to all forms of U.S. assistance to Nigeria, describing the country as “disgraced.”

“If we attack, it will be fast, vicious, and sweet, just like the terrorist thugs attack our CHERISHED Christians!” Trump wrote, adding that the operation would go in “guns-a-blazing” to “completely wipe out the Islamic Terrorists who are committing these horrible atrocities.”

Sports: Remo Stars’ Championship defense crumbles with CAF exit and NPFL relegation zone battles

NRTC WEEKLY learnt that defending champions Remo Stars have plunged into crisis with four consecutive defeats across all competitions. The Sky Blue Stars currently sit in the relegation zone after their latest 3-1 defeat to Kwara United.

Remo Stars crashed out of the CAF Champions League following a 7-1 aggregate defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns. The Nigerian champions lost 5-1 at home before suffering a 2-0 defeat in Pretoria.

The Ikenne-based side has conceded 14 goals in six matches this NPFL season. After eight rounds, Remo Stars sit in 17th place with just ten points from three wins, one draw and four losses. They also have three games in hand.

Entertainment: Regina Daniels accuses Ned Nwoko of arresting her siblings, threatens to expose him

NRTC WEEKLY reported that Nollywood actress, Regina Daniels, accused her estranged husband, Ned Nwoko, of using the police to arrest her siblings following the collapse of their marriage.

The actress took to Instagram to cry out that her elder brother and sister had been detained, and her younger sister might also be targeted.

According to her, Nwoko wanted her to return home and go back to what he called a rehabilitation centre.
