Asamoah Gyan tips Super Eagles as favourites to win 2025 AFCON

Former Black Stars striker Asamoah Gyan has strongly backed the Super Eagles as leading favourites for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

Gyan believes Nigeria’s recent form and depth make them genuine contenders for the continental crown in Morocco this December.

Nigeria will arrive at the tournament seeking their fourth AFCON title after falling short in the last edition. They came agonisingly close in Côte d’Ivoire, losing 2–1 to the Elephants in a tense final. Even so, Gyan insists Nigeria have grown stronger since that experience.

Speaking on the sidelines of the 2025 CAF Awards in Rabat, he praised the team’s progress. According to him, the Super Eagles showed remarkable quality two years ago and remain a major threat. He also emphasised on the strength of other leading sides competing for the trophy.

Furthermore, Gyan named Côte d’Ivoire and hosts Morocco as the other strong favourites for the title. He stressed that all three teams possess the balance and competitiveness required to go deep into the tournament.
