Rosenior confirms verbal agreement to become Chelsea manager

Liam Rosenior has confirmed he is on the brink of a remarkable leap to the Premier League after revealing he has verbally accepted the Chelsea job.

The Strasbourg boss said the opportunity was impossible to refuse, even though it arrives at a deeply emotional moment. “I cannot turn down this opportunity to join an incredible club, incredible squad who are Club World Cup champions,” he said.

He explained that the paperwork is close to completion. “I haven’t signed yet. Everything is agreed and it will probably go through in the next few hours,” Rosenior stated.

Even so, loyalty pulled him back to face Strasbourg supporters before departing. “I’m here because I care about this club and I felt it was right to answer your questions physically here today before I move on.”

He confirmed several trusted staff members will follow him to London as that will ensure continuity. Strasbourg flourished under him last season, finishing seventh and securing European football after years of absence.

Rosenior admitted the goodbye has been difficult. “The last 18 months have been a joy and the best of my professional career,” he said.

“I will love this club for the rest of my life but I cannot turn down Chelsea,” Rosenior added.

He has never managed in the Premier League, yet insists he is fully prepared. “I would not have accepted the Chelsea job if I was not ready,” he stressed. “There are clubs you just cannot turn down. I hope the Strasbourg fans can see that and be proud of that.”

He also revealed wider interest existed before ultimately choosing Chelsea. “I have had interest from many clubs, including Champions League clubs,” he added. Chelsea, currently fifth, await his arrival as they continue their campaign with belief in a new direction after the exit of Enzo Maresca was announced on New Year’s Day.
