Calvin Bassey has withdrawn from the Super Eagles squad for this month’s international friendlies against Iran and Jordan due to a back injury.
The Nigeria Football Federation confirmed the defender’s absence ahead of the team’s departure for Antalya, Turkey, where both matches will be played.
Bassey, who started both legs of Nigeria’s World Cup play-off against DR Congo last year, had been named in Eric Chelle’s 23-man squad announced last week. His withdrawal leaves the Super Eagles with 22 players for the two fixtures.
The Fulham defender has been a regular for his club this season, making 27 Premier League appearances. The injury is not believed to be serious, but the medical team advised rest rather than risk aggravating it during international duty.
