The Governor of Edo State, Monday Okpebholo, has accused opposition political parties of deliberately orchestrating and exploiting the wave of insecurity across the country to undermine the administration of President Bola Tinubu.
Okpebholo made the remarks on Tuesday, during the official flag-off of the All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign for the upcoming local government elections in the Edo South Senatorial District.
Addressing a crowd of party faithful, the governor insisted that using security challenges as a political weapon would not yield electoral success for the opposition in the Senate, the House of Representatives, or the presidency.

“What is happening today is the handiwork of the opposition. They have failed. Have they not failed? Is it by kidnapping children? Then who are you going to govern? There will be nobody for you to govern. So let them give us peace so that we can rule well.”
According to the governor, Tinubu has outperformed his predecessors in driving national development.
He defended the controversial removal of the fuel subsidy, arguing that the direct fiscal benefits of the policy are already visible and felt through various infrastructure projects currently being executed across the state.

The campaign rally served as the platform for the official presentation of the APC flagbearers for the forthcoming council elections, which the Edo State Independent Electoral Commission (EDSIEC) has scheduled for July 11, 2026, across all 18 Local Government Areas.
Okpebholo commended the candidates who emerged victorious from the party’s primaries, stating that their success at the grassroots level would lay the groundwork for delivering the 2.5 million votes promised to Tinubu in the 2027 general election.
Among the prominent candidates unveiled by the governor for the Edo South region were Ogbeide Ihama, candidate for Senate, Paddy Iyamu, candidate for Oredo Federal Constituency and Omorede Igbinedion, candidate for Ovia Federal Constituency.
Also speaking at the event, the APC Chairman in the state, Jarrett Tenebe, described the party as the only viable political structure capable of delivering real progress to the people of the state.
