Catcalling women, the overlooked dimension of verbal-based sexual harassment

To me, catcalling should be regarded highly as an offense of rape. These days, one can see the prominence and glorification of vices that should be archaic. I even thought gone were the days of catcalling until I witnessed its prominence earlier this week.

A man in no way has the right to catcall a woman. If you’re so interested in a woman, nothing is more befitting than walking up to her to express your feelings. Worst case scenario, she ignores you. Men that catcalls women can actually rape them.

Most of the time, catcallers are violent in their verbal approach. They drop intrusive and overwhelming comments that sexualize the appearance of a woman. Some catcallers go as far as talking dirty so that their intentions are made known to all.

In cases where a woman tries to exercise her basic rights by standing up to the catcallers, you see the beast in them. They start to go back on their supposed “complementing” words and start to hurl abusive comments. It is all pure psychology; once a man’s ego is bruised, his beast is hardly tamed.

I want to think catcallers are cowards who fear rejection and, therefore, profess their feelings publicly in a way that puts them in an advantaged position. So they won’t get embarrassed, they start to hurl their feelings at the lady in the sense that it leaves the woman feeling embarrassed.

Ladies should know better by now than to accept a relationship request from a catcaller. No matter how good of a man he’ll ever be, the fact he didn’t respect you enough to woo you like the human you are shows a high sense of irresponsibility. Most times, the best way to deal with a catcaller is to serve him a tight silence. But you know, as annoying catcallers can be, they get physical when ignored.

The adverse effects of catcalling

Humans walk up to each other to have conversations, not call each other like one is an animal. Catcalling has diverse effects that one cannot measure; none is positive. If, as a woman, you need a catcaller to affirm your beauty, you’re relying on a deep, fake comment.

Catcallers traumatize the emotional state of the victims. Growing up, there are some paths ladies are too scared to take because they know a group of irresponsible boys or men would not only loiter on that path but engage in catcalling.

Catcalling sometimes builds insecurity in growing ladies. There is one tactic amidst catcallers where they sexualize a woman by naming her attractive body parts. The woman might feel so embarrassed that she wants to vanish.

For example, if she’s busty, at that moment, she feels guilty for being busty. Never give your mind an excuse to justify your catcaller. You’re made to attract, and if anybody isn’t mature enough to do it the right way, it’s not your fault.

Additionally, catcalling breeds men-hate in some women. Women who have been constantly catcalled aggressively see men as predators and continue to brew hate in their minds.

It is quintessential for women to reach out to the authorities as soon as possible should they feel threatened or abused by cat callers.
