Lagos solidifies position as Africa’s esports hub with GamrX 2025

Lagos State Government has affirmed its status as a leader in African esports by successfully hosting GamrX 2025, the continent’s largest competitive gaming tournament.

The event took place at the Landmark Event Centre in Victoria Island and drew over 1,000 gamers from nine African nations to compete for a total cash prize of ₦15 million.

Lekan Fatodu, Director-General of the Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC), attended the event and praised the participants and organisers.

He stated that the state government supported the fourth edition of GamrX to capitalize on the vast market potential of esports.

Fatodu expressed his appreciation on behalf of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, commending the organizers for their investment in creating a vibrant gaming ecosystem.

He also announced the state’s commitment to supporting the event’s growth, with the goal of doubling the number of participating countries in the future to make it a global benchmark in the gaming world.

Gamers competed for titles in popular games, including Street Fighter, EA FC, Mortal Kombat, PUBG Mobile, and Call of Duty Mobile.

The tournament’s success reinforces Lagos’s role as a major player in Africa’s burgeoning digital future.
