Nigeria records 107 new cases of COVID-19

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has confirmed that the country has recorded an additional 107 new cases of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours.

The NCDC, in its daily report on the Covid-19 situation in the country, said the new confirmed cases were in addition to the three Omicron variants recorded by the Nigeria on Tuesday. The agency also gave a state-by-state breakdown of the infections recorded in each state with Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory recording the highest number of infections with 38.

According to the health agency, the states with the latest cases include :
FCT-38
Oyo-21
Rivers-17
Edo-13
Delta-7
Enugu-4
Zamfara-4
Plateau-3

So far, the NCDC has confirmed 214,896 since the index case last year while 207,495 patients have been discharged.

The death toll from COVID-19 related complications stands at 2,980.

Meanwhile, the cumulative latest figures shows that seven confirmed cases were reported for Delta state for 6th (4) & 7th (3) December 2021; 4 confirmed cases reported for Enugu State for 6th December 2021; and one discharged case reported for Enugu state for 6th December 2021.

Also, five states with zero cases reported include Kano, Ogun, Ondo, Osun and Sokoto

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control is the country’s national public health institute, with the mandate to lead the preparedness, detection and response to infectious disease outbreaks and public health emergencies.

The Bill for an Act to establish NCDC was signed into law in November 2018 by President Muhammadu Buhari, with the mission to protect the health of Nigerians through evidence-based prevention, integrated disease surveillance and response activities.
