Leading stories:Three years after EndSARS

Just like yesterday, one of the events [EndSARS protest] that shocked Nigeria clocked a third anniversary yesterday begging for many questions, especially when will justice be served. NRTC WEEKLY gathered that the aftermath of the EndSARS protests left a significant impact on the Nigerian youth, as well as the overall society. The protests, which initially started to denounce police brutality, evolved into a broader call for governmental accountability, good governance, and social justice.

NRTC WEEKLY learned that since the tragic events that unfolded during the protests and the subsequent crackdown by security forces led to a sense of disillusionment and anger among the youth, many lost innocent souls and those unlawfully arrested are yet to get justice. Many young Nigerians felt betrayed and disheartened by the perceived lack of justice and responsiveness from the government and the security apparatus.

While the global community stood in solidarity, advocating for human rights and justice, the government’s response left a deep divide between the people and those in power. Upon promises made by the government to address the issues raised during the protests, there remains a lingering skepticism about the actual implementation of these reforms, NRTC WEEKLY confirmed— that many youths continue to seek ways to engage constructively in the political process, striving for a more inclusive and transparent governance structure.

The aftermath of EndSARS acted as a wake-up call for the Nigerian government, urging them to prioritize addressing the concerns of the youth and to work towards creating a more just and equitable society. NRTC WEEKLY confirmed that it highlighted the urgent need for systemic reforms that can foster trust between the government and its citizens, particularly the younger generation who aspire for a better future.

Business: Naira disvalue

Nigerians have again expressed concern over the continued devaluation of naira to other countries’ money, as the latest update revealed that the continuous devaluation of the Nigerian Naira against major currencies such as the dollar and Euro has been a cause of concern for Nigerians.

A prolonged devaluation often leads to various consequences such as increased prices of imported goods, higher inflation rates, and reduced purchasing power for citizens. NRTC WEEKLY gathered that this situation can further exacerbate the already existing economic challenges in Nigeria, potentially leading to a decrease in foreign investments, economic instability, and a decline in living standards for many Nigerians.

While the citizens are yet to heal from the economic problems, the government’s policies in ensuring the naira regain its value have been categorized as weak, as the country’s overall economic strategies play a crucial role in addressing this issue and stabilizing the Naira’s value.

Entertainment: Davido and Phyna saga

This week, the internet went abuzz as renowned Afrobeats singer, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido denied the identity of the winner of season 7 BBNaija reality TV show, Phyna. NRTC WEEKLY gathered that although Davido had apologized for endorsing a tweet that lowered the reputation of Phyna and her fans, Netizens failed to let the matter go to sleep.

Taking to their social media handles, they opined that for Davido to have claimed he doesn’t know Phyna from Adams means he can’t lie because he dined and wined with a popular and well-known individual in the country and beyond.

NRTC WEEKLY gathered that some Netizens berated Davido for such an act, saying it was intentional because he had had an intention of ridiculing Phyna. In a countered opinion, some Netizens stated that winning a BBNaija TV show was not enough to build recognition, maintaining that Davido might not be someone who watches BBNaija as others do.

They urged Phyna to double her hustle if she truly wanted to be recognized by well-known stars like Davido.

Politics: Withdrawal of nominated FERMA Chairman

The withdrawal of Engr. Imam Kashim Imam as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA) by President Bola Tinubu has generated a lot of controversies among Nigerians, especially youth who clamor for representation in the current administration.

NRTC WEEKLY gathered that the 24-year-old Imam was nominated on October 13 by the President for four (4) years that are renewable by Section 2(3) of the FERMA Amendment Act, 2007” but his appointment generated concerns, with many saying he lacked the requisite experience for the job.

On the allegations of this, Tinubu spokesman, Ajuri Ngelale, said withdrawal of the nomination is with immediate effect without disclosing any reason.

Across their social media, youths called for the reinstatement of Imam if truly the president is ready to keen into his agenda of youth representation but some maintained that Imam got the appointment as a way of rewarding his father, hence the reason for him to be experienced before he can lead.

NRTC WEEKLY gathered that some youths are on the train calling for the removal of Imam which in turn made some youths believe that the young ones are not ready yet.
