With only three days till the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Convention, which will determine its presidential candidate on the 28th and 29th of May, an aspirant and former governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, has left the party.

Peter Obi revealed this in a letter to the party’s National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, dated May 24, 2022, and titled “Resignation From Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Withdrawal From the Presidential Contest,” said he had informed the Chairman of Agulu Ward 2, Anaocha LGA Anambra of his decision since Friday, May 20, 2022.

The letter signed by Peter Obi partly read, “Consequently, I am by this letter informing you of my withdrawal for the PDP Presidential Primaries.

“It has been a great honour to contribute to nation-building efforts through our party. Unfortunately, recent developments within our party make it practically impossible to continue participating and making such constructive contributions.

“Our national challenges are deep-seated and require that we each make profound sacrifices towards rescuing our country. My commitment to rescuing Nigeria remains firm, even if the route differs.

“I wish to thank you personally for your graciousness and leadership. I wish you well and best of luck in the service of the country”.

Meanwhile, the All Progressives Congress’s (APC) National Working Committee (NWC) approved a revised Timetable/Schedule of Activities for the Governorship, State House of Assembly, Senate, and House of Representatives Primary Elections on Tuesday.

According to a statement issued by APC National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka, the party’s Special Convention for the Presidential Primary will take place on Sunday and Monday as scheduled.

Governorship and State House of Assembly primaries will now be held on Thursday, according to the altered schedule.

The House of Representatives primaries are on Friday, while the Senate primaries are on Saturday.
