Rivers secretariat reconstruction to be completed in Q1 2027, says Fubara

Governor Siminalayi Fubara has said the ongoing reconstruction of the Rivers State Secretariat Complex will be completed and handed over to the state government by the first quarter (Q1) of 2027.

He made the assurance on Monday during an inspection of the multi-storey buildings located in the Old GRA axis of Port Harcourt.

Fubara, who had previously visited the site earlier in the year, said he returned to assess not only the external facelift but also the pace and quality of work inside the structures.

โ€œI have been seeing the outer part of it wearing a new look, but I wanted to really confirm how much work is going on, most importantly, the inside, and that is what I went to inspect myself,โ€ he said.

He expressed satisfaction with the level of progress recorded and restated his administrationโ€™s โ€œRivers Firstโ€ agenda, insisting that all ongoing projects would be completed as planned.

Complex undergoing overhaulThe Rivers State Secretariat is a landmark facility that was built in the 1970s, shortly after the creation of Rivers State in 1967.

It is currently undergoing a major transformation that covers several key structures within the complex.

The Point Block is a 17-storey tower forming part of the redevelopment project.

The Podium Block is a 10-storey administrative wing also included in the upgrade.

Blocks A, B and C are each seven-storey buildings that are likewise undergoing extensive rehabilitation.

The rehabilitation project includes structural upgrades, redesigned office spaces, and the installation of modern utilities and technology-enabled facilities aimed at improving administrative efficiency.

Political developments

The inspection came days after Fubara withdrew from the 2027 governorship race, describing the decision as a sacrifice for peace and unity in the state.

He reiterated that his administration remained focused on delivering ongoing infrastructure projects despite political developments in the state.
