Taiwo Awoniyi ruled out of Liverpool clash as Dyche confirms fresh injury blow

Nigerian striker Taiwo Awoniyi will miss Nottingham Forest’s Premier League trip to Liverpool after suffering a fresh injury setback.

The 28-year-old had recently rediscovered his form under Sean Dyche, who restored him to the squad after limited appearances under previous managers. However, his momentum has now been halted at a crucial stage of Forest’s campaign.

Awoniyi made a strong impression before the international break, coming off the bench to influence Forest’s 3-1 win over Leeds United. His introduction in the 59th minute helped tilt the match. Yet, despite that bright cameo, the forward is now expected to spend time on the sidelines.

Speaking during his pre-match briefing, Dyche expressed disappointment over the timing of the injury. The Forest boss praised Awoniyi’s impact but admitted the medical team must now assess the striker’s condition.

“Taiwo was terrific when he came on. Unfortunately, we’ve lost him with a bit of an injury, so we will see how that settles down,” Dyche stated.

Awoniyi has featured five times across competitions this season, though his campaign has been stop-start. His absence adds another challenge for Forest as they prepare for a difficult visit to Anfield. Even so, the squad remains focused on extending their unbeaten run and building on recent momentum.

Forest defeated Liverpool 1-0 last season, and another positive result could pull them out of the relegation zone. Although they have not secured back-to-back league wins at Anfield since 1963, Dyche believes his team can compete. Nevertheless, the loss of Awoniyi forces Forest to adjust their attacking approach for Saturday’s showdown.
