Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State on Tuesday presided over his first official stakeholders’ meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC) since his high-profile defection to the ruling party in late 2025.
The meeting, held in Yenagoa, served as a “new beginning” for the party in Bayelsa, drawing a massive turnout of top political leaders and members aimed at unifying the party ahead of the 2027 General Elections.
In a major resolution that set the tone for the 2027 race, the Bayelsa APC stakeholders unanimously passed a motion to support and deliver President Bola Tinubu, for a second term.

Diri emphasised that aligning the state with the centre is strategic for Bayelsa’s development and progress, urging members to remain focused on the collective goal of a prosperous state.
“I am pleased with the large attendance… a sign of a new beginning and togetherness under my leadership,” Diri stated. “We must remain united in our desire for a better Bayelsa where politics of violence and intimidation are a thing of the past.”
To ensure a smooth transition and maintain momentum in the party’s administrative work, the governor announced a key decision from the National Executive Committee (NEC).
The immediate past State Working Committee (SWC) has been reappointed to serve as the State Caretaker Committee.
Their primary mandate will be to guide and conclude the ongoing membership e-registration process, which aims to digitalise the party’s database in the state.
The atmosphere turned sombre as the stakeholders observed a minute of silence in honour of the late John Kojo Brambaifa (JKB), who passed away on January 3.

Diri described the former Bayelsa West representative as a pillar of the state’s political history whose leadership would be greatly missed.
Diri reiterated his commitment to “politics of development” over “politics of division.”
He urged all members to embrace the progressive fold, promising that the APC in Bayelsa would henceforth be a house of unity, transparency, and inclusive growth.
