Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to purposeful governance, declaring that his government did not assume office for “jamboree” but to tackle the serious responsibility of developing the state.
The governor made the remarks during a worship service at the Government House Chapel in Owerri on Sunday, where he reflected on the biblical account of Moses leading the Israelites through hardship in the wilderness.
Drawing from the passage in the Book of Exodus 17:3–7, Uzodimma noted that the story highlighted how leaders must remain calm and decisive even in moments of intense pressure.
He explained that the Israelites, overwhelmed by thirst, questioned both their leadership and God’s presence.
However, Moses resolved the crisis by following divine instruction and striking the rock to provide water.
According to the governor, the episode offered a powerful lesson for modern governance, where leaders must confront challenges directly rather than retreat from them.

Uzodimma stated that his administration fully understood the weight of public trust and remained focused on delivering measurable progress rather than engaging in political theatrics.
“As a government, we did not come into office for a jamboree. We understood the weight of the responsibility before us,” he said.
“Like Moses confronting the challenge before him, we will continue to address our tasks squarely and deliver results.”
The governor also highlighted several milestones recorded by his administration, including the completion of major infrastructure projects such as the Assumpta twin flyovers and the Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu International Convention Centre.
He further pointed to the recent increase of the state’s minimum wage to ₦104,000, which he described as the highest sub-national wage in Nigeria.
Uzodimma added that security improvements had helped restore commercial activities and nightlife in Owerri, following periods of instability in the state.
Reaffirming his government’s “3R” agenda — Reconstruction, Rehabilitation and Recovery — the governor assured residents that his administration would continue to prioritise long-term development and prosperity over short-term political gains.
