Nigerian singer and member of the now-defunct music duo P-Square, Peter Okoye, has argued that celebrities cannot single-handedly solve the country’s problems, urging citizens to play a collective role in driving change.
The artiste, popularly known as Mr P, made the remarks while responding to growing demands for public figures to speak out more strongly against insecurity, economic difficulties and poor governance in Nigeria.
Speaking during a recent interview, he acknowledged the frustrations of many Nigerians but stressed that meaningful progress would require the participation of the wider population rather than relying solely on celebrities.

“I apologise for saying I won’t concern myself with Nigeria’s challenges anymore. I may have security agencies guiding me but not everyone can afford it. This is our country, it is only us who can bring positive changes.
“However, celebrities alone can’t save Nigeria. All those clamouring for celebrities to speak up against bad governance should redirect their energy. It is not a matter of celebrities. This government has failed us all. But together, we can bring the desired change,” he stated.
Mr P’s comments come amid ongoing debates over the responsibility of entertainers and other public figures to use their platforms to address national issues and hold leaders accountable.
