Cash, No Cash : Power tussle in Nigeria’s Leadership.

Naira Redesign

The recent naira redesign policy has revealed a malady in the delimitation of power in the Nigerian economy.

Specifically, the ongoing election debacle has somewhat taken focus away from the cashless problems of Nigerians.

Most Nigerians, devotees of various political parties are participating in various propaganda of their parties.

The protest, court session, online and offline battles had taken the limelight while cash problems have been relegated to the background.

Despite these, the cashless problem lingers and persist despite the assurances from different  authorities that it will be cleared after the presidential election. The presidential elections are over yet the situation worsens with each passing day.

Finally, there has been a uniformed decision for the old naira note to still be considered as legal tenders but the past fiasco between various authorities is still unaddressed. Prior to the March14 announcement, the whole country was in a state of total confusion that affected the lives of the citizens.

The whole naira redesign policy become a bone of contention between the major decision bodies in the country and ultimately ended with a power shown down to the neglect of the masses.

A lot of loopholes in the system was revealed, there were disparities in the orders received from the CBN governor on one hand.

The federal government and the CBN out rightly flouted the supreme court judgement.  The states and the governors operated independently and doing whatever they please in their states and the masses taking sides with whom they please.

For a democratic country that practices rule of law, it just shows the state of the country. A remedy is fast needed for this situation to stop the same from repeating itself.

We cannot be a country where those, higher up can do as they please with no checks, while the average man is punished for doing the same. There need to be a new redefining and delimitation of power for our country to be truly democratic and a state where the rule of law prevails.
