The former Dortmund manager said he had told Liverpool’s bosses about his intention to leave back in November last year.
“When we sat there together talking about potential signings, the next summer camp and can we go wherever, the thought came up, ‘I am not sure I am here then anymore’ and I was surprised myself by that. I obviously start thinking about it.”
The 56-year-old, who joined Liverpool in 2015, has won six trophies with Liverpool. He won the Champions League with the Reds in 2019 and the Premier League title in 2020.
Liverpool are presently top of the Premier League table and have reached the Carabao Cup final. The Merseyside club are still in the FA Cup and the Europa League.
In April 2022, Klopp had signed a two-year extension to his Liverpool contract.
