UFC 287: Israel Adesanya knocks out Pereira, reclaims middleweight belt

Israel Adesanya has regained the UFC middleweight title from Alex Pereira in the main event of UFC 287.

The Nigerian-NewZealander claimed the victory against Pereira at the FTX Arena in Miami, Florida on Sunday morning.

The knockout was a shocking and instant one as Pereira was initially on the offensive. Perreira was releasing some body hooks and a knee to the ribs before Israel Adesanya, the challenger, threw a right hook out of nowhere.

Catching the Brazilian Mixed Martial Artist unawares, Pereira froze as ‘The Last Stylebender’  landed another hook – not as powerful as the first – to knock out the holder. He was left out cold after the fist.

As is usual custom, Israel Adesanya celebrated by imitating firing arrows at his rival, Perreira.

After their first fight, in kickboxing, Adesanya suffered a points loss to Pereira in acrimonious circumstances. In their rematch however, also in kickboxing, Adesanya was leading but was knocked out.

Back in November, their first MMA clash, Adesanya was ahead and looked likely to win, but was beaten in the final round.

This win against Perreira is a very precious and much anticipated one for Israel Adesanya and his fans. He finally gets a first win over the 35-year-old Brazilian in their fourth meeting in seven years. And what a way to win it!
